U.S. defender Cory Gibbs is set to join English Premier League side Charlton Athletic for the upcoming season.

The transfer of the 26-year-old is subject to Charlton obtaining a work permit.

"In the past week I've received interest from Middlesbrough, Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Charlton," said Gibbs. "Playing Premiership football has always been my dream and I was flattered to have such options. I honestly believe I am joining a club that is ambitious and hungry for success."

Gibbs has recently spent time on loan with ADO Den Haag following the news he was leaving Feyenoord at the end of the 2005/06 campaign.

Gibbs was voted Ivy League player of the year and was also a First Team All-American during his time at Brown University.

Gibbs joined German side FC St Pauli in 2001 and stayed for three years before moving to the Dallas Burn for the 2004 season. He then moved to Feyenoord in January 2005.

Gibbs made his international debut in 2003 and has been selected for the 2006 U.S. World Cup squad.
