Jaime Moreno scored both goals in D.C. United's 2-0 win over Chivas USA
D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno was named MLS Player of the Week after scoring both of his team s goals in their 2-0 win over Chivas USA.
The goals bring Moreno's career MLS goal total to 96, only four behind the league's all-time leading goal scorer Jason Kreis.
Moreno opened the scoring in the 59th minute when his pressure on Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan forced a mistake. "The first goal was a ball by Christian [Gomez and] I was fortunate to get there," Moreno said. "The keeper tried to hit it out of bounds, but he hit my foot and it went in."
His second goal, a first-time shot off a pass from Jamil Walker, sealed the team's first win of the season.
"We struggled the first half," said the Bolivian international. "I didn't think we created good chances, but there were a lot of positive things. We just have to try to get everyone for the next game and try to see where we lack in confidence and try to stop making mistakes."
D.C. United is back in action this Saturday, hosting the Houston Dynamo at 7:30.
Week 1: Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo)
