Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber today announced that D.C. United head coach Peter Nowak has been fined for remarks he made toward a Real Salt Lake player during a pre-season game.

"After conducting a thorough review," Garber said in a prepared statement. "We find that D.C. United Head Coach Peter Nowak made improper remarks during the D.C. United vs. Real Salt Lake pre-season game on February 17, 2006 in Bradenton, Florida."

During the match, Nowak allegedly yelled, "Send him back to Africa," after Atiba Harris received a yellow card for physical play. Harris, from St. Kitts-Nevis, is on trial with Real Salt Lake this preseason.

The league did not disclose the amount of Nowak's fine.
